Okay—so throughout the day me and Mum were going back though the days, it’s was like a
continuation of everything that I was doing the other day. Only this time it was the classics! The Beatles, Rupert Holmes (what people call the one hit wonder.) but I thought the song “Him“
was great. He’s more popularly known for the songs “Terminal” and “The Pina Colada Song“. I’m not really a big Beatles Fan. People love them but after listening to most of their songs in YouTube.com, I had to get a copy. I know Fiona Apple did a version of “Across the Universe” and “Strawberry Fields” was sang again by some anonymous singer and thus was included in the soundtrack of “Across the Universe” directed by my most adored Production Designer, Director and Tony Award Winner Julie Taymor. And yes just like other films, I am itching to watch the said film.
So why did this happen? Seriously, I don’t know! I happened to be browsing around Myspace.com and Purevolume.com–the other day and I just went nuts looking for new bands, interesting ones. I’m very picky when it comes to music. I cannot totally say that I am a devout Rock and Roll or Alternative fan. I just happen to like more Rock Bands than the other but I don’t want to prefer another genre to another either.
I think they have different ways of expressing themselves to the public. And I seriously respect that. But what’s the use of liking something and listening to something without knowing the “front man” of the entire thing. When I was younger, I’d read interviews or watch interviews on VH1 about singers/bands who would talk about their musical influences and often times you would hear bands like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Iggy Pop,Bob Dylan, David Bowie. I later learned that during an interview with Panic At the Disco, when asked if they listened to big names such as Bob Dylan, the band responded by saying “We don’t listen to old man’s music” on the contrary some musician’s don’t understand what they are in. There’s no sense of foundation to what they do, that they are indulged into making music and pouring out their heart into it but don’t understand what/where they’re in. Like a couple of years ago, when Evanescence came out and the whole grudge fashion came out–the term Emo circulated- and all of a sudden people looked the same and wanted to be in bands with black make up, smile and screaming out that their emo. Where the hell have you seen an Emo smile or laugh?
But anyways. I now understand why The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones made such noise. I think their music is great. I’ve listened to most of their songs before but never really had the time to just sit down and apperciate every beat of it.
